Having had so many days in October with above-average temperatures, it will take a little time to get used to November’s chill.
The bare trees with crunchy leaves underfoot punctuated by the occasional whiff of woodfire smoke always make the seasonal transition a little easier for me.
Its time to have winter preparations completed, or nearly so, before the first snows arrive. There were years in recent memory, where the first snows were big 10” dumps of the white stuff! That snow did not leave until the Spring thaw, so I’ve learned my lesson, not to procrastinate too long with yard cleanup. I’ll be moving the snowblower closer to the side door this week.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
When the winds start to howl and the thermometer drops, there is usually a cup of hot chocolate or tea and a good book to pull me away from the window. Though there is something fascinating about watching a winter storm (from inside. I’m no hero!)
One preparation you may want to consider is to buy your NFRA 50/50 ticket for the December 31st draw!
Congratulations to our Winner of Draw #3, Carla Hagstrom Bissada, who won $4885.00 in October’s draw. Carla is a former Thunder Bay resident who was just in town visiting family a few days before the draw. She routinely supports local charities like ours, and this time it paid off!

Are you in?
Historically, the 4th draw of the year has our biggest prize as many tickets are bought as gifts over the holiday season. Be sure to get yours to be in the draw!
Imagine how nice it would be to get the phone call just before the New Year!
NFRA and volunteers would like to thank the community for the tremendous support of our Can Collections throughout the year!
At our last ‘Sort’ on October 18th, we were faced with a HUGE pile of beer and pop cans, as well as some metal and recyclables that Kris had collected from our 2 landfill bins and sheds. It was a beautiful autumn day and the 18 of us had the pile sorted, bagged and counted in an hour and a half! I think we are setting new records with each Sort!

Your donations of your beer and liquour bottles especially are making a huge impact on the funding we can supply to Neebing Emergency Services.
To be notified of upcoming Sorts or other functions, and to join in the camaraderie, email nfraevents@gmail.com. We’ll let you know what’s happening! No pressure, we promise 😊
